Old, wet, moldy, or rodent-damaged insulation doesn’t get cleaned — it gets removed. We take it out clean and put fresh insulation back, all with the same crew that handles your ducts, mold, and water damage.

When attic insulation has to come out

A lot of Houston attics don’t need a teardown — a top-up does the job. But some situations call for full removal before anything new goes in:
  • Water damage. After a roof leak, burst pipe, or storm, soaked insulation loses its R-value and grows mold. It can’t be dried and reused.
  • Mold. Once mold is in the insulation, cleaning the surface isn’t enough — the material has to go.
  • Rodents. Droppings, urine, and nesting contaminate insulation and leave odor and health risks behind.
  • Age and settling. Decades-old insulation flattens out, loses its rating, and stops doing its job.
  • Smoke and odor. Insulation holds smoke and odor long after a fire or heavy contamination.

How we remove it

We start with an attic inspection so you know exactly what’s up there and why it needs to go. Then we protect the path from the attic access to the door, bag and vacuum the old material at the source, and clean and treat the space. When the attic’s clean and dry, we re-insulate to the right R-value for a Houston home. Most jobs are remove-and-replace in a single visit.

Why a restoration company is the right call

An install-only crew can lay down new insulation, but they’re not set up to deal with what’s underneath it. We’ve handled mold, water damage, and contaminated ductwork in Houston attics since 2002. That means we treat the cause, not just the symptom — so the problem doesn’t grow back above your ceiling a few months later.

Serving Houston and the surrounding metro

We pull old insulation out of attics across the Houston area — the Heights, Memorial, Bellaire, Sharpstown, Clear Lake, and out to Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, The Woodlands, Cypress, Spring, Missouri City, and Tomball. Not sure what’s in your attic? We’ll get up there and tell you straight. Want the full menu of options? See our Houston attic insulation page for blown-in, batt, spray foam, radiant barrier, and air sealing. If the attic tends to trap heat, adding a solar attic fan after the new insulation goes in helps vent it and keeps the space cooler.

Insulation Removal FAQ

When does attic insulation need to be removed instead of topped up?
If it’s wet, moldy, rodent-contaminated, smoke-damaged, or so old it’s flattened and lost its R-value, it comes out. Clean, dry, intact insulation can usually just be topped up — we’ll tell you which after we get in the attic and look.
Do you remove wet or water-damaged insulation?
Yes. Soaked insulation can’t be dried and reused, and it turns into a mold problem fast. We remove it, dry and treat the space, and re-insulate — the same crew that handles your water-damage restoration.
Can you remove moldy insulation?
We do. Moldy attic insulation gets removed and the area treated as part of our mold work, so you’re not just covering contaminated material with new batts.
What about rodent-contaminated insulation?
Rodents leave droppings, urine, and nesting through insulation. We remove the contaminated material, clean and sanitize the attic, and install fresh insulation.
How do you keep the mess out of my house?
We bag material at the source and carry it out through the attic access, protecting the path so debris and dust don’t end up in your living space.
Will you replace the insulation after removing it?
Yes. Most jobs are remove-and-replace in one visit — old material out, attic cleaned, new insulation in.
Can you remove insulation and clean my ducts at the same time?
Yes, and that’s the advantage of using us — one crew handles removal, duct cleaning, and any mold or water issues instead of three separate companies.
How do I get a quote?
Call (832) 699-0888 or use our contact form. We’ll inspect the attic and give you a straight estimate at no charge. We serve Houston and the metro, including Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, The Woodlands, Cypress, Spring, and Missouri City.

Some attics need more than the insulation pulled out. When droppings, debris, or pest damage are part of the picture, our attic cleaning and decontamination crew handles the full cleanout in the same visit, so the new insulation goes down on a clean deck.
