When Should I Have Ducts Cleaned ?

With the growing concerns about indoor air quality, most homeowners wants to get their air ducts cleaned. But unless ducts are really dirty, there’s no reason to clean them. The EPA takes a similar stance on the issue.

When done properly, air duct cleaning does help improve the indoor air quality. It’s something that needs to be on your regular home maintenance list. You probably need to have your air ducts and HVAC system cleaned every 2 years or so.

When one of the item on the list applies to your home you should defiantly consider having your air duct cleaned :

  • Remodeling: If your home has been painted or remodeled. If you had lead paint removal, or significant dust – your ductwork needs to be cleaned. The Air Ducts should be sealed off during home renovations; but if they weren’t, dangerous dust and debris may become lodged inside the ductwork.
  • Bacterial Growth/ Mold: If there is visible Bacterial growth inside the ductwork, or you see black spots on your air duct covers, your air ducts should be cleaned.
  • Animals: When you see evidence of animal infestation or nesting in your air ducts. When you notice debris, pet hair, or other contaminants.
  • Allergies: If anyone in your household is suffering from allergy-related illness, you may want to consider having your air ducts cleaned.

When choosing an air duct cleaning company, always make sure you make the right choice. Reliable company that have been in business for many years and have a clean good record and ratings.
