Fiberboard Air Duct Cleaning
While cleaning air duct can improve indoor air quality, one must always make sure to use the right tool for the right job.
Fiber-board or fiberglass ducts and very complicated to clean. Upon inspection of the duct system the technician must determine which type of duct system he is cleaning.
While flex ducts and metal ducts can be brushed and scrubbed fiber board duct can not.
Several step are taken when cleaning fiberboard ducts.
- Inspect the ducts for buildup of ducts, mildew, mold and other contaminants.
- Slowly remove light build up from the surface of the duct.
- Vacuum fiberboard duct using a HEPA filter system.
- apply a Fungicidal Protective Coating such as FOSTER® 40-20™
- Seal all connections to prevent air leaks.
- Seal plenum boxes to prevent air leaks and air-born particles.
What is Foster Protective Coating ?
Foster® 40-20™ Fungicidal Protective Coating (40-20) is a polyacrylate copolymer emulsion specifically formulated for long-term fungicidal activity, with no loss of activity on aging. It is formulated to effectively prevent the spread of molds and odor causing bacteria on its surface. It provides a tough, elastic, decorative finish that allows for movement without splitting and creating lodging places for bacteria.
Foster 40-20 provides a cost effective decorative finish resistant to many industrial chemicals, together with long-lasting protection. It can be used on walls, ceilings, pipes, interior and exterior surfaces of HVAC duct systems, and wherever effective controls are essential.
Foster 40-20 guards against the re-growth and spread of odor causing bacteria and molds on the surface of the coated HVAC system or its treated components only. As a result, the building occupants may enjoy a work space free of the odor problems often associated with contaminated HVAC duct systems.
Foster 40-20 meets requirements for LEED® EQ Credit 4.2, Lowe mitting materials: paints and coatings. VOC: 42 g/l, less water and exempt solvents.
